The Low Temperature (LT) furnace is a multi-zone electrically or gas heated slot furnace with a corrugated D shaped high nickel alloy muffle. This design allows some sag (Catenary) of the fiber within the muffle, yet clears the bottom and also provides a well for collection of fiber debris. The corrugated muffle is to ensure rigidity at the working temperatures.
At the inlet to the LT furnace the horizontal band of fiber passes through a stainless steel inlet gas seal chamber into the furnace proper. This gas seal comprises a long tunnel with a special entrance gate.
The LT furnace is heated above and below the muffle with 6~7 zones so that its temperature profile gradually increases to a normal maximum of about 950°C.

The carbon fiber band is passed horizontally a number of times through electrical or gas heated oxidation ovens connected in tandem, where the fiber is heated up to a temperature of about 220 – 300 °C. LT processed fiber is fed continuously into the High Temperature (HT) furnace. The horizontal band of fiber passes through a stainless steel inlet gas seal chamber into the furnace proper. This gas seal comprises a long tunnel with a special entrance gate. Off Gas Treatment System for Carbon Fiber Manufacturing

The main component of the abatement system is the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer RTO and TO with heat exchanger.
